Local Service & Support
At Red River, you have a choice when it comes to buying a central heating and cooling system. The most energy efficient heating and cooling system on the market is the Geothermal Heat Pump, which we originally called the Ground Source Heat Pump. Red River led in the state as the first co-op in Oklahoma to begin offering ground source technology.

Since 1984, the co-op has sold over 700 Geo units as part of new -home construction or retrofitting in existing homes. Initially the co-op offered several different name brand Geo-Units but many years ago because of a successful history settled on Command-Aire as our supplier.

How It Works
Ground source technology consists of an in-ground loop pipe system for extracting heat from the earth in winter or returning it to earth in the summer and a heat pump for transferring heat to and from the home.

The in-ground loop pipe is filled with filtered water that circulates when the unit is running. It is completely closed; meaning it requires no flow of water from your household.

In the winter, the water is circulated through the heat pump, which converts it to warm air. In the summer, the heat pump removes heat from your house and transfers in to the pipe to let the earth absorb the heat.

Much less electricity is required to operate a ground source system, since the water in the pipe starts out at a comfortable and constant 62-degree temperature from beneath the earth.

In the summer, enough extra heat is extracted to operate your water heater, saving you even more electricity. The investment required to install a ground source system is higher than for conventional air-to-air. However, there are annual savings as a significant amount of money is saved through lower electric bills. The ground source system produces four units of energy for every unit used to power the system.

The warm air in the ground source system is moved in slightly higher volumes through your home’s duct system and saturates the home with warmth more smoothly. This helps to even out hot or cold spots and reduces the cold air blast common with fossil fuel furnaces.

Why you should choose Geothermal?
It pays for itself, it preserves your home’s aesthetic value, it’s earth friendly, it provides free hot water, it’s easy to maintain, it’s a system that lasts, and it works almost anywhere in any climate.

Loans are available
Members with good credit history may borrow the full cost of a new heating and cooling systems from the co-op. The current rates are 5% for Geothermal Heat Pumps. Terms are for five years and payments will appear on members electric bills for easy pay back.
