| If you are concerned about the number of kilowatt-hours
(kWh) of electricity you are using each month it would be very useful
if you would begin keeping good records on your meter readings. Start
off by keeping track of your readings each day. Then subtract the
previous days reading from the current reading each day and you’ll
have the number of kilowatt-hours used in a 24-hour period. By adding
the daily figures into a weekly total, you can see how much –
and when your family used the most power during that month.
When you have concerns about high usage you can look over your
readings and ask the question - what were the family activities
during that week? Was the weather really cold? Was it a wash day?
Then see what activities, if any can be altered to use energy wisely.
If you still have question…call your co-op for an energy
audit. Have a trained person come check out your water heater, heating
and air conditioning systems and other electric appliances to see
if there are problems. There is no charge for this service unless
you specifically ask them to do service work.
